About the Exhibition:

This inaugural exhibition of paintings and installations by a group of artists (Wong Shih Yaw, Tan Tuan Yong, Yap Kheng Kin, Shirley Ho and Ivy Li) who called themselves “5 Loaves”, invites you to consider the simple things in life. Their pursuit of art through contemplative practice prompts them to bring their interpretation to the many cares of our daily living. Using allegories, metaphors, representation and other visual imageries, 5 Loaves sends you on a journey of their inner and outer worlds, of dreams and childhood joys to liberation from bondage.

Ivy Inspiration on the Care-Less Exhibition derived from  “My Favorite Things” is a show tune from the 1959 Rodgers and Hammerstein musical The Sound of Music.

I am creating a series of paintings which depicts objects of my childhood fantasy.  The transition towards adulthood has proven itself to be occasionally mind-numbing and unimaginative. In accordance with the exhibition theme “Care Less”, this series of works is a recollection of the bits and pieces from my personal utopia. The documentation of Ivy’s happy thoughts is done in the hopes of it being like a memory box, which might just be able to take me to my secret haven when life gets old.
